Berkeley Repertory Theatre

Berkeley Repertory Theatre is best described as a leader. Since the company’s debut season in 1968 as a storefront theater, Berkeley Rep has acquired two stages, the Osher Studio, and a Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre. The West Coast not-for-profit also takes pride in its Berkeley Rep School of Theatre and ambitious programming. Producing innovative theater, Berkeley Rep expresses an elevated creative standard and engages a diverse West Coast audience.

Time Warner Foundation aids this continuing tradition of diverse works with support for The Ground Floor. The Ground Floor: Berkeley Rep’s Center for the Creation and Development of New Work is committed to fostering new work by emerging storytellers in the local community of West Berkeley. It encompasses commissions, workshops, salons, writers groups, and the Summer Residency Lab. The Summer Residency Lab alone has yielded eight impressive works that have since gone on to full productions at the regional theater and Off-Broadway since its 2012 inception.
