Su Teatro

The mission of Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center is to promote, produce, develop and preserve the cultural arts, heritage, and traditions of the Chicano/Latino community; to advance mutual respect for other cultures; and to establish avenues where all cultures may come together.

Su Teatro’s primary activity is creating theater and the organization has produced more than 50 original plays, translations and adaptations for the American Theater Canon. Su Teatro regularly commissions new work from theater artists, regionally and nationally.

Mr. Garcia will create and tour a new work based on nationally distributed journalist Gustavo Arellano’s column and best-selling book, Ask a Mexican, which dissects issues of Mexican identity and the dominant culture's perspective of the Mexican presence in the U.S. Working in collaboration with Arellano, Tony Garcia will extend the column’s signature “in your face satire”.  The project will allow Mr. Garcia and Su Teatro’s team of emerging and veteran artists to be involved in the highest level of artistic production and to engage new and diverse audiences with theater.
