Women's Project Theater

Women’s Project Theater (WP) has launched the careers of some of the most important female leaders in American theatre since its foundation in 1978.  At the time, Julia Miles, WP’s founder, recognized that only 6% of the work being staged was female-driven.  Valuing the voice of women in American theatre, WP is a main contributor facilitating the development, production, and promotion of plays written and directed by women.

Time Warner Foundation supports WP’s Writers Lab and Pipeline Festival, to elevate the voice of women in theatre.  WP’s Lab provides development to fifteen female, emerging theatrical artists in a two year residency that has garnered critical acclaim for its artistic achievements.  Artists are given development and networking opportunities while they prepare their works for production as well as leadership training.  This partnership is unique in that one third of the lab participants is composed of each playwrights, directors and producers.
