From July through September 2013, SCR’s CrossRoads playwrights will participate in four-day immersive residencies in Orange County. After a quick orientation at SCR, they will spend time connecting with cultural and community organizations and Orange County residents. The artists will spend the first year of the grant researching and writing, followed by extensive development at SCR in the summer of 2014.
This summer, the Time Warner Foundation’s grant supported the first ever musical at 2ST UPTOWN, Murder for Two by Joe Kinosian and Kellen Blair. This dynamic two-person musical spoofs the classic Agatha Christie style murder mystery in a fast-paced production that was a huge hit with audiences and critics, playing a twice-extended, sold-out run from July 10 – August 25.
Sundance Institute and Time Warner Foundation announced 11 artists selected for the 2013 Sundance Institute | Time Warner Foundation Fellowship Program, which promotes cultural, socio-economic and gender diversity as well as artistic collaboration and innovation among emerging film and theatre storytellers, documentary filmmakers and film composers.
From June 12-28, Atlantic presented Latino Mixfest, an annual play festival that showcases new works by Latino writers from across the country. This 2013 festival featured readings of new plays by Quiara Alegría Hudes, Charise Castro Smith, Cusi Cram, Martín Zimmerman, and Carlos Murillo.
Filmmaker and Sundance Institute | Time Warner Foundation Fellow Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) was honored with the Vanguard Award, presented by Tiffany & Co., at the third annual ‘Celebrate Sundance Institute’ benefit on June 5 in Los Angeles. The award comes with a cash grant and mentorship from industry professionals.
