Steppenwolf Theatre Company

Steppenwolf Theatre Company engages audiences with big ideas. One of the most nationally recognizable names in theater, and a major player in Chicago’s arts community, this theater is committed to supporting artists and producing works that are culturally relevant and reflective of the city’s robust community. That vision of representative storytelling and opportunity for all segments of that community has attracted some of today’s most compelling storytellers to create theatre with Steppenwolf. Among them are members of Steppenwolf’s award-winning ensemble: Tracy Letts, Tarell Alvin McCraney, and Bruce Norris.

Time Warner Foundation is committed to support Steppenwolf’s continued fostering of great artists. whose voices have the potential to transform the American stage. As a result, the Foundation is proud to support Steppenwolf’s Diverse Voices Program, a new play development initiative to discover and incubate plays featuring multiple under-represented groups so that identity conflicts are not the central themes in the work. This frees characters to be representative of reality: influenced but not defined by identity. The new initiative touches the way Steppenwolf artistic staff identifies plays, engages playwrights, develops new work, and produces world premieres.
