Gloria La Morte

(Independent Filmmaker Project, Tribeca Film Institute)

BORN IN COLOMBIA and raised in the US, my home and heritage has had the most impact on my work and sensibilities. Identity as a child was a tug-of-war for me. But today I’m grateful for all that pulling and yanking. I want my work to move me and to move my audience in opposite directions at once, very similarly as life would have it.

I KNEW I’D BE A WRITER when I took a chance and wrote my first screenplay and saw it on the screen. The whole thing was so unbelievable that I said, “Hey, let me do that again.” I still say it after every project.

MY WORK, IN SIX WORDS: For my son and his world.
