RECENT WORK In The Crossing. Leila, a Lebanese-American writer-performer, arrives at a convention to perform a solo piece about being in Lebanon with her Jewish husband during the Israeli-Hezbollah war of 2006. But as other voices challenge her own, a more immediate conflict begins, and soon Leila and her audience embark on a new journey: a humorous, dangerous dialogue about history, family, belonging, love and what it means to tell a story.
WHO DO I WRITE FOR? American audiences who don’t have a personal understanding of the Arab world — especially those who think they do.
MY WORK, IN SIX WORDS: Storytelling performance: audience engagement; personal; political.
